Voltage Agent Pack: Build Lightning Payments with AI

Bobby Shell

Give your coding agent the Voltage API knowledge and payment workflows it needs to build a Lightning integration, from the first prompt to a completed payment.

Describe the payment experience you want to build. Give your coding agent the right product knowledge. Start testing the result.

That is the experience we are building with Voltage Agent Pack, documented as the Voltage Agent Skill Pack. It puts Voltage-specific API context and payment workflows inside the AI coding tools developers already use.

The ambition is practical: go from prompt to payment in about an hour for a focused integration with the necessary account setup in place. Graham Krizek, our founder and CEO, has described early customers completing AI-assisted integrations in under an hour. That is an observed outcome, not a guaranteed timetable for every application or enterprise rollout.

What is Voltage Agent Pack?

The pack gives your coding agent guidance for building with Voltage. Its current voltage-api skill covers the product model and workflows for payments, wallets, webhooks, and checkout. The published OpenAPI contract is its authoritative API reference.

It works with supported coding tools including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Gemini CLI. Installation adds skill files; connecting an account and authorizing payment operations are separate steps. See the Agent Skill Pack documentation for supported tools and setup.

For a developer, this reduces the amount of product context you need to manually explain before an assistant can help. The agent has a defined source for how Voltage works, and your prompts can focus on the application you are building.

From a generic prompt to a useful integration

“Add crypto payments” leaves a lot unresolved. Which payment rail? What creates the invoice? How does the application know it was paid? Where does the payment belong in your own system?

A useful prompt defines a customer outcome and makes those decisions visible. For example:

Use the voltage-api skill to add Lightning deposits to this application. First inspect the existing account model and propose an integration plan. Create invoices on the server, associate each payment with the correct account, and update the balance only after verifying completion. Explain the configuration and tests needed before making API calls.

This is where product-specific skills earn their place. They help the agent work with the actual API and payment lifecycle while adapting the implementation to your codebase.

You still review the plan and generated code. The time saved goes into validating the business behavior: the correct customer gets credited, duplicate notifications do not create duplicate credits, and an incomplete payment does not unlock a purchase.

Install the pack and make a first payment

With Node.js/npm and your coding agent already installed, add the pack:

Shell
npx skills add voltagecloud/agent-skills --global --yes

Open a new agent session, then ask it to use voltage-api. You can start planning and writing code before supplying credentials.

For API testing, configure a Voltage organization, environment, wallet, and environment API key using the setup instructions. Store credentials locally as documented, outside source control and agent conversations.

Begin by asking the agent to inspect the configured wallet and confirm the network without creating a payment. Once you have a test wallet ready, give it a narrow task:

Use voltage-api to verify that my selected wallet is on Mutinynet. Create a 150-sat test invoice, show me how to pay it from another test wallet, and check the payment status afterward. Use test funds only.

The milestone is a completed payment that you can inspect. From there, build the surrounding feature: a deposit screen, a checkout flow, or a payout workflow with the appropriate authorization.

What this means for Bitcoin payment agents

Developers searching for Bitcoin payment agents often have two related goals. Some want an AI assistant to build a payment integration. Others want their application to initiate payments as part of an automated workflow.

Voltage Agent Pack helps with the development and operational knowledge behind those experiences. It does not, by itself, define what an autonomous application may spend or who can authorize a transfer. Those decisions belong in your application and credential controls.

For a Lightning Network payment agent, useful design questions are concrete: What event permits a payment? What amount is allowed? How is the recipient selected? What happens if the result is uncertain? A product team can turn those answers into requirements and ask its coding agent to implement and test them.

That makes agent-assisted development valuable for serious payment applications. The assistant can help produce the integration while the business defines its operating rules.

Why the infrastructure matters as much as the prompt

Faster code generation is only part of the improvement. Voltage provides the managed Lightning payment infrastructure behind the API, so your engineers can focus on customer and application behavior.

The pack also includes guidance for the open-source Voltage CLI. An installed CLI is preferred for supported operational tasks; direct API guidance remains available for application integrations. The CLI is optional, so adopting the pack does not require changing your entire development setup. The Agent Pack repository explains how the pieces fit together.

For a small team, this can make a payment feature feasible with fewer resources. For an enterprise, it can shorten technical evaluation and give engineers a working integration to review much earlier.

Start with one payment experience

Choose a narrow outcome: accept a Lightning deposit, add checkout, or build a webhook receiver. Install the pack, describe that outcome, and have your agent propose the implementation and tests.

The value is getting to a working payment flow quickly enough that your team can spend its effort on the product surrounding it.
