Beyond Consumer Apps: Enterprise Money Movement With Voltage

Voltage helps businesses use Bitcoin and Lightning for payments, deposits, withdrawals, and settlement. The opportunity starts with a useful money movement workflow, not a new consumer app.

Start With the Money That Needs to Move

If you run a payment business, you probably aren't waiting for everyone to adopt Lightning. You're trying to get money where it needs to go, without unnecessary cost or delay.

That's where we start at Voltage. Which transfers are slowing your business down? What do they cost? Could Bitcoin and Lightning improve that part of the process?

You don't need to replace your whole payment system to find out.

An exchange might start with withdrawals. A payment platform might need transfers to keep moving after banking hours. In either case, the first step is to find the problem worth solving.

Build on the Product You Already Have

Lightning moves bitcoin between businesses and wallets that support it, without waiting for each transfer to be included in a Bitcoin block. You can add that capability to a product you already run.

That could be an exchange withdrawal, a wallet transfer, or a payment to another business. Your customers don't need a Voltage-branded wallet.

Both sides of the transfer need Lightning support, and the connection needs enough liquidity for the payment. You can evaluate that for your use case today, without waiting for everyone else to adopt the network.

Our payments platform gives your team an API for sending and receiving payments, managing wallets, and tracking activity. You keep your existing customer experience and internal ledger.

Where This Fits in an Enterprise

Exchange Deposits and Withdrawals

If you run an exchange, you can offer Lightning alongside on-chain Bitcoin transfers. Start with customers whose wallets support it, then measure the speed, fees, and completion rate of those transfers.

Our exchange infrastructure supports that approach without requiring you to replace your trading system or route every withdrawal through Lightning.

Payment Platforms and Cross-Border Services

For a cross-border payment service, Lightning can handle the Bitcoin part of a transfer. Conversion and local payout still need their own approved arrangements.

Say a customer pays in bitcoin and the recipient wants local currency. You need to collect the payment, convert it, and complete the local payout. Each step has a cost, an owner, and a way to confirm it is done.

We support the Bitcoin payment step. The receiving bank or off-ramp determines when the local currency becomes available. Work through that timing before promising your customer a delivery date.

How BitGo Uses Voltage

BitGo is a useful example of what this looks like inside an institutional product.

BitGo's Lightning-enabled Crypto-as-a-Service lets businesses add Bitcoin payments to their products. We provide automated node and liquidity management for its Lightning integration.

BitGo provides custody and regulated services within its offering. We support the Lightning infrastructure. A separate Voltage integration has its own custody and compliance requirements.

For a business building on top, this means adding Bitcoin payments to a product its customers already use, with clear responsibilities for the infrastructure behind it.

Work Through Funding With Your Finance Team

Your finance team will also want to know how payments are funded and when money reaches the bank.

With node-backed payments, your business controls the node and reserve. You'll need clear responsibility for custody, credentials, funding, and liquidity.

Eligible businesses can also use a Voltage line of credit without operating the underlying node. Currency and repayment terms are agreed separately.

For qualified U.S. businesses, our USD settlement workflow can connect Bitcoin payments with a USD-denominated credit arrangement. Bank settlement follows the agreed billing cycle and banking process, even when the Lightning payment has already completed.

If you need conversion or an off-ramp, we'll work through the available partners, destination currency, country, eligibility, and payout timing with you before launch.

Start Small and Measure What Changes

Choose one transfer type that's expensive, slow, or taking too much of your team's time. Before you test it, agree on what you'll measure:

  • Total cost per completed payment, including platform, conversion, liquidity, and payout costs.
  • Time to a completed transfer, and separately, time to usable funds at the final destination.
  • Completion rate at the transaction sizes and volumes your business actually needs.
  • Engineering and support work required to keep the flow running.

Look at the full journey. A low network fee only helps if the total cost works, and your customer needs to know when the funds will actually be available.

Our advice is to start there. If the results hold up at the sizes and volumes you need, you have a reason to expand.
